Spiropyrans and Related Reversible Photochromic/Thermochromic Dyes

Spiropyrans -- Spectra Group presents a large selection of compounds that can be generalized as Spiropyrans. This is one of the largest classes of photochromic and thermochromic compounds. Our catalogue covers a variety of parent ring systems containing various cycles and heteroatoms as well as a great variety of substitutions on the parent rings.

Spiropyran is broadly defined as a molecule containing a 2H pyran ring in which the number-2 carbon atom is involved in a spiro type linkage. Heterolytic cleavage of the 1,2 single bond is responsible for photochromic and/or thermochromic activity of such compounds. Compounds in our catalogue all belong to the class of spiropyrans and related compounds. Their photochromic or thermochromic activity varies greatly depending on the structure of the cycle and its substituents.
